After a year which saw two close family bereavements, I'm happy to report that I can now focus on projects both old and new. I have a new composition in the skillet along with a radio commission from the Onassis Centre in Athens, working title 1' silence.
During my self-initiated residency at Breathing Space (Jedburgh's Old Bakery), once I stopped the random experimentation I found time to sort out my live set by settling on two hand-made psalteries, metal preparations, microphones and prepared dc motors. I also recorded and filmed actions and performances for new compositional and moving image projects. Before the temperature in the space reaches absolute zero I'll be working a Revox B77 mkII and developing multichannel ideas using several channels of audio channelled through sound exciters/transducers attached to resonant objects.
My long-term collaboration with Giancarlo Toniutti is (we think) drawing to a close as the final passages of our Atlas of Instabilities are fine-tuned. The Atlas is a series of dialogues on music viewed through the lenses of anthropology, morphology evolutionary biology, cultural theory, semiology, linguistics, neurology and other fields of research which you can find out about when we get round to publication.
