Excerpts
In early January 2020 Giancarlo Toniutti proposed to James Wyness the realisation of a new musical project. This was to be based on the non-standard orchestration of a peculiar set of instruments and performative acts founded on the kinetic energy of unwitting behaviours placed upon acoustic generators. By way of preparation the pair met several times in various European cities and more remote locations to compose together drookitarlùp, a 23' piece for 42 players with non-standard wind, string, friction and percussion acoustic instruments.

At each location (namely: Alta, Čičmany, Rila, Artikutza, Mhère, Mäls, Fulda, Baarle-Hertog, Kybartai, Llanasa) they studied the autonomic possibilities of performative arts applied to music. Following many discussions and relativistic settings they put pen to paper and fiat musica! They eventually realised that they wished to perform two versions (interpretations or adaptations) of the piece as part of one overall work in order to test the realistic behaviour of sounds under such circumstances. A collection of mostly folk and extraeuropean instruments was chosen, along with a gathering of self-built, temporary and unusual sound objects, these then assigned to an orchestra of international specialised players, The Kafkian Cladistique Claque.

In late February composers, players and technical staff all gathered at Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra, Slovakia, where a series of rehearsals allowed the players to get accustomed to the material and the chthonic fundamentals of the project. At the end of this period, in a hall empty of audience, both composers separately conducted and directed one performance, each with his specific interpretation of the original score. Each of these sessions was recorded on a multichannel system and finally brought home to be mixed by the authors at their personal studios.
