The Sigh
A Conversation with the Forest
view on vimeo
The Sigh looks at our relationships with the forest as cultural engagements - the images we make, the keepsakes we take away, the individual and collective dreams, fantasies, stories and myths that we construct. I spent many months in the depths of the forest and imagined the fallen trees as listening elders, the upturned stumps as ears, sensory tunnels into the forest mind. I found myself quietly apologising for our poor custodianship. In response to my confessions the forest returned a weary sigh, perhaps a sigh of relief, that in the end we’d be the first to leave this shared planet.
you have no need for words
and yet you are a talking book
you ask for nothing
you the cryptic host and me the guest, the parasite
your toppled elders have the priest's ear
inviting apology, remorse, confession
with a sigh
