The Jed Project

For many years I've been carrying out various artistic investigations into the town and the villages and landscape around where I live. I've done this mainly by means of sound recordings and text, latterly with photography, short film and performance. The Jed Project takes in art, anthropology, the natural and social history of Jedburgh, the Jed Water and the land and adjoining it, examining the river basin and the people who live there, the problematics of landscape, agriculture, small town life and politics. It is something of an umbrella project for many of my activities and, though artists are thin on the ground here, is designed to and will hopefully draw in collaborators.

The Jed Project found new energy in the Fallow Land commission. This was a very welcome development because it allowed me to organise sustainable events for local people, such as Get Jed Fed, which in spite of resistance from the usual quarters, led to a small victory for people over 'aye-beens', pen-pushers and assorted pests.
