Immigrants

Research: this project looks at immigration in the context of plants and flowers brought to Europe and the UK from foreign lands. at how these have been established to the point that we forget their origins. Alongside this themes of nostalgia and homesickness drawn from the folk song traditions of countries and regions whose plants were collected and resettled. 

Media: multichannel moving image, folk song and contemporary choral music, small sculpture, food.

The centrepiece of Immigrants consists of a vertical three-channel moving image installation, showing historical and contemporary paintings and illustrations of neophytes, filmed by scrolling slowly down the prints. The clip above is taken from an earlier work using this technique.
