ELECTROACOUSTIC COMPOSITION
I compose electroacoustic music using microphones, computers and loudspeakers. I record sounds then edit and transform them to create densely textured layers and eventually produce compositions to be published on fixed media, digitally or to be played back in concert settings over different configurations of speaker.
I tend to work on long-term and large-scale compositions which take months and even years to complete.
I adhere to a specific definition of music based on morphology or the shapes of sounds and how they interact and coalesce, one which emerged from years of experimentation and latterly from a long period of collaborative research and dialogue with fellow composer Giancarlo Toniutti. This definition sees music, broadly speaking, as an investigation of complexity, sound-as-sound over sound-as-sign.
