Sound and Rural Architecture Festival, Gralheira, Portugal, 2012 Listen to The Hearth This residency and exhibition, organised by Binaural/Nodar, saw artists, architects and an anthropologist in residence for three weeks prior to a series of presentations in various rural locations around the Gralheira Mountain Range, São Pedro do Sul, Portugal. As a working concept I chose to consider the hearth and the altar as two of architecture’s fundamental sites in terms of human history and anthropology. Following a period of research at various indoor and outdoor sites I made a series of recordings to be used as source material. The work was presented as a multichannel work (in a thunderstorm) at an open air community football stadium, chosen for its unusual acoustic properties.
