58 Processions was developed in collaboration with Duncan Whitley in 2007 and 2008. As a research and development project, we moved back and forth between the field (the highly ritualised Easter processions taking place in the streets of Seville) and the studio, working with a growing archive of sound recordings from Semana Santa.

As a multi-channel sound installation, 58 Processions, was delivered in August 2008 at The Crypt of St Pancras Church. The focus of our labour was the deconstruction of these complex soundscapes through processes of multi-channel sound recording and playback along with a re-mapping of the spaces of Seville’s Holy Week processions.

The audio recordings were hosted as part of the British Library sound archive but unfortunately seems to have disappeared in the 2023 cyber attack.

Duncan has produced a beautifully designed catalogue with text, illustration and embedded recordings of some of the key scenes from our field work, available online as 58 Processions: Listening Through Holy Week.
